To celebrate World Book Night, BHT hosted their own event on 22 April where 95 books were donated to clients of BHT’s services, including homeless men and women in Brighton & Hove.
The event enabled people to pick up a free book and find out about local reading, writing and learning opportunities in the area.
Nils Visser, one of the Authors of the book ‘Invisible Voices of Brighton and Hove’, was guest speaker, reading from the book and speaking of the group’s event at the Brighton Fringe Festival, which will give homeless and former homeless people a voice.
We were pleased to be a part of this international event where we have received World Book Night titles including: Last Bus to Coffeeville, J. Paul Henderson, Reasons to Stay Alive, Matt Haig and Am I Normal Yet?, Holly Bourne, from the Reading Agency, and second hand books from BHT staff.
Very few of our clients own books and read regularly, so holding an event like this makes it possible and inspires people to read.
