bloodpressuredrop_W300First Base Day Centre, in partnership with St John Ambulance, has been providing blood pressure checks for men and women who are homeless today.

It’s important for us to offer this service at First Base today. Our clients are less likely to access medical services as homelessness can cause them to have different priorities.

Because of this, when our clients do present to medical services their conditions are often in a more advanced state. Therefore, any opportunity to detect potential problems as soon as possible is vital to our clients’ wellbeing.

Simon CotterellHigh blood pressure increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. If left uncontrolled, high blood pressure can also cause blindness, irregularities of the heartbeat and heart failure.
