Brighton Housing Trust has signed up to the Living Wage Campaign; a movement that celebrates organisations who are paying their staff a living wage.

The Living Wage Foundation supports, recognises and celebrates the leadership shown by Living Wage Employers in the UK. They believe that work should be the surest way out of poverty.

The Brighton and Hove chamber of Commerce is spearheading the campaign in Brighton and Hove to encourage businesses to sign up to a pledge that they are paying their staff a ‘Living Wage’ which has currently been set at £7.20 per hour in the City.

This amount is higher than the National Minimum Wage which is currently set at £6.19 per hour for over 21’s as it reflects the true cost of living in the Brighton and Hove.

The reason why we support the living wage is simple. At BHT we want to attract and retain the best employees possible, we owe it to them and to the business, to pay the living wage as an absolute minimum.

We have to ensure our staff (a percentage of which are ex-clients) can afford to work.
