A marathon memorial event will take place this Friday to commemorate the life and achievements of a local Brightonian, Keith ‘King Spinner / DJ Sinner’ Martin.
As a young man Keith Martin had his own battles with addiction and homelessness. But with the aid of the 12 step programme and shear determination he managed to get his life back on track and stayed clean for a remarkable 33.5 years!
He later went on to assist many others who were facing a similar situation and in need of a helping hand and support.
Friends of Keith have organised a fundraising memorial event “A Tribute to the King”, a Reggae/Jungle Charity to celebrate on Good Friday 3 April 2015 from 1pm – 4am across two local venues. The memorial will start at 1pm on Brighton’s seafront at Riki Tik Beach Bar with a wide selection of long standing selectors of the Reggae scene and will then move to the award winning Concorde 2 from 11pm – 4am.
Leanne Hazell of RK Bass Records has been a big part of the fundraiser by setting up a Just Giving page for the memorial event for people that aren’t able to attend the fundraiser.
All funds raised by the events on 3 April will be donated between two charities, Brighton Housing Trust’s First Base Day Centre and The Alpha Boys school in Jamaica. These charities were carefully chosen to reflect the causes close to Keith’s heart.
We have a massive line up of some of the world’s most talented Jungle, Drum & Bass, Reggae & Dancehall Ambassadors, DJs & MCs who have requested sets at this prestigious event & have given their time for free. I would like to thank Leanne Hazell, Mark Evans & Jack Donald for all of their help to making this memorial event significant.
