fareshare-logo_W300BHT’s First Base Day Centre hosted a celebration dinner on Saturday 30 July to acknowledge and thank the volunteers of FareShare Sussex.

The centre has been a FareShare Sussex member for 14 years, receiving regular deliveries of fresh food which contributes towards a varied and balanced diet for people who sleep on the streets in Brighton & Hove.

Malnutrition due to a poor, inadequate and unhealthy diet is common among people who are street homeless.

FareShare Sussex supports us to provide nutritious and healthy meals for some of the city’s most vulnerable people.

Food distributed by FareShare is also used during our Catering Training Project, which sees clients learn the necessary skills to plan, prepare and cook balanced meals once they’ve accessed accommodation, and supports people who wish to progress into training, volunteering and employment in the catering industry.

Simon Hughes, BHT First Base Day Centre Operational Manager

Without our volunteers, we would be unable to sustain our project providing food otherwise destined to be wasted to so many great organisations across Sussex.

We are proud to be supporting the fantastic work of First Base and it’s a real honour for our team to be invited for a celebration dinner to acknowledge the hard work of our volunteers.

Beth Parry, FareShare Sussex Fundraising & Communications Manager
