Staff and volunteers from BHT’s Route One Project have been busy building three raised beds in the garden and planting an array of vegetables from beetroot, peas and lettuce to carrots, potatoes and spring onions.
Residents from the Route One Project will meet once a week to tend to the beds and watch their produce grow whilst learning about gardening and healthy eating. At the end of the summer, once the vegetables are ripe and ready, staff and residents will have a barbecue using all of the fresh, organic ingredients that they have grown themselves.
Getting out in the fresh air, getting involved in hands on practical tasks and watching the fruits of their labours begin to grow has been hugely beneficial to the individuals who regularly attend the Route 1 gardening group.
Now in its second year, we look forward to welcoming new people and getting stuck into nurturing our produce in our new raised beds, kindly donated to us by Aspect Gardens.
