Zoe ByrneInspirational schoolgirl, Zoe Byrne, is taking on the ultimate challenge of giving up sweets, chocolate and sugary treats for a month to raise money for BHT’s First Base Day Centre.

Zoe, of Mile Oak Primary School, was determined to help the people she was seeing on the streets but she wanted to make sure that what she did would make a real difference. She set about creating a fundraising action plan and visited First Base Day Centre to find out what she could do to help.

Zoe will be launching her challenge in her school assembly on Friday 10 March, and is determined to raise £1000. Every penny that Zoe raises will go directly towards supporting people who are street homeless in the city.

First Base Day Centre provides a range of support, from basic necessities such as food, health services, showers and laundry facilities, to person-centred advice and training to help people to access secure accommodation and find employment. Zoe would like the money she raises to go towards food, client activities, toiletries and washing powder.

I didn’t want to do something that was going to be easy. Being ten, I really like sugary treats so this is going to be a big challenge for me, but I’m very excited to get started!

Zoe Byrne

I’m really proud of Zoe. She is the one who has made this happen. She’s very motivated to make a difference to as many people’s lives as possible.

Vicky McFarlane, Zoe’s Mum

Zoe is an inspiration to us all. She is extremely dedicated to helping people and we’re delighted that Zoe has chosen to support First Base Day Centre. It’s because of people like Zoe that we can continue to reach those who need our help the most. Thank you Zoe!
