Over 70 people joined a walk to raise money for legal aid services in Hastings and St Leonard’s this week.
Lawyers, law firms, advisors, support workers, teams from other agencies and members of the judiciary walked the 10k route to raise funds for the Advice and Community Hub which is home to Citizens Advice 1066, Hastings Advice and Representation Centre (HARC) and BHT’s Hastings Advice Centre.
On behalf of the three advice services I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came out to walk and show their support for free, legal advice in Hastings and St Leonards.
It was amazing to see so many people from different agencies supporting the advice services.
In the last year we estimate that over 8000 people have accessed advice through the Advice and Community Hub, for most people it is not a single issue, but multiple issues that they require advice on. With this in mind we estimate we have advised on over 16,000 issues in one year.
Money Advice advised on over £2.5 million of debt, HARC assisted people suffering from illness and disability to receive £1 million pounds in benefits they are entitled to and
BHT Hastings Advice prevented homelessness for over 200 households.
The total amount raised by the teams supporting the walk so far is £1500 which is great news but there is still time to donate and show your support for free legal advice in our town.
