Staff at Hastings Advice have joined a 10k legal walk to raise money for legal aid services in Hastings.
Over 80 lawyers, law school students, law firms, chambers and members of the judiciary, walked the 10k route to raise funds for Hastings & Rother (1066), Citizens Advice Bureau, Hastings Advice and Representation Centre (HARC) and BHT Sussex Hastings Advice.
District Judge Nightingale and Nick Hanning, Former President of CILEx, led the walkers along the Hastings countryside in a bid to raise money and awareness for the advice services.
The Hastings Legal Walk is an annual event aimed at raising awareness that there’s free, independent advice available in the town provided by a number of excellent advice agencies.
This year’s walk was the biggest and best yet with 81 people joining the walk and over £2,000 raised so far.
I would like to thank all the walkers who came out to support us, as well as everyone who has sponsored us so far.
A huge thank you also to Wesleyan for Lawyers who sponsored the walk this year and supplied all the drinks at the end of the walk and the bottle of Bollinger for the prize drawer.
Joanna Wilson, Manager of BHT Sussex Hastings Advice
The money we raise makes a big difference to the advice agencies in Hastings, improving access to justice for all.
The recession has increased the need for the charities’ work while reducing the resources available for them.
