Choir With No Name releases first ever single

A Brighton choir for people who are homeless joined choir members from across the country to record the single ‘This is Me’, from the Greatest Showman. The single is being released this March to celebrate ten years of the Choir With No Name.

The Choir With No Name is a nationwide charity that runs pop-up choirs for people who have experienced homelessness or marginalisation due to poverty. The Brighton choir has been running in partnership with BHT since August last year.

Members from the Brighton choir sang with members from Liverpool, Birmingham and London. A smaller group of ten singers were trained by Brighton choir director Freya Wynn-Jones to harmonise and provide backing vocals, and three of the choir members recorded solos for the song.

Choir manager Alex Procter said:

We’re absolutely thrilled to take part in such an exciting and landmark event in the story of the Choir with No Name. Our members dedicated themselves week in week out to learning this song, and excelled in the studio, making a fantastic sound. I’m very excited about the finished product, and can’t wait for the public to hear what this amazing group of people is capable of!

To date the Brighton choir has already well and truly made its mark on the Brighton community, with over fifty people joining rehearsals, and wowing audiences with a sold-out show at the Brighton Dome this Christmas, as well as performing at Cadogan Hall in London and at a number of other local Brighton venues.

The Brighton choir is run in partnership with Brighton Housing Trust who employs the choir manager as well as providing members with direct access to their support services. It rehearses on Monday evenings at 6.30pm at One Church in Gloucester Place, Brighton. There is ninety minutes of singing, followed by a hot meal for all members.

Anyone can join and no auditions are required – people can just turn up at One Church.
