BHT’s Immigration Legal Service has received an ‘Excellent’ rating from their latest Peer Review, an audit carried out by the Legal Aid Agency every three years.
The Immigration Legal Service provides support within Brighton and Hove and the surrounding area offering advice and representation under the Legal Help scheme, with particular emphasis on immigration and asylum law, unlawful detention and in the European Court of Human Rights.
Advice and representation is provided by specialist solicitors and caseworkers to those who are financially eligible for Legal Aid.
Solicitors and caseworkers represent clients at all stages of the asylum process, and in bail, trafficking or domestic violence cases, from the initial application to appeals before the first tier and the upper tribunal. They also represent clients in applications for judicial review in the upper tribunal and administrative court in all areas of asylum and immigration law.
The service is only able to assist people whose cases fulfil the criteria for legal help under the Legal Aid Agency contract.
I am extremely proud of the team’s achievements. This gives the team valued recognition for all their invaluable work to the local community.
