On Sunday 25 June adults and children of all ages and abilities are invited to join BHT’s mass-participation, group-effort attempt to pedal ‘around the world’ in just 12 hours.
Whilst excitement is certainly building, we are calling on more cyclists to hop on their bikes and be part of something special. With participants cycling as many or as few laps of Preston Park Velodrome as they wish, and setting their own pedal-power pace, it really is an accessible challenge for the whole community to get behind.
There will be a variety of family-fun activities throughout the day, including bike marking by Sussex Police, having a go on a penny farthing, playing giant sounds sculptures, whipping up a smoothie with Bike It Ben, getting your name on the front of a Brighton & Hove Buses double-decker and taking a look at the sun with expert astronomers, as well as entertainment from Brighton & Hove Youth Percussion Ensemble and Cuckoo’s Nest Morris.
It is hoped that this unique event will raise £25,000 to enable First Base Day Centre to continue to help people to move away from the streets, and on to independent and healthy lives. Every penny raised will go towards providing food, health services, showers and laundry facilities, and most importantly person-centred advice to help find accommodation and employment.
We are calling on the whole community to come along and get pedalling. You could even add an element of healthy competition by setting yourself, your family or your work colleagues a personal challenge, as every lap counts! Not only will it be a fantastically enjoyable day, you will also be supporting a really important local cause.
