firends-meeting-house2016_W300An event has been organised to help people living in specialist supported housing to prepare for the world of work.

The Getting Ready for Work 2016 work and learning fair has been organised by members of the local authority’s Work and Learning Working Group. The fair will allow people to meet and chat to a wide range of local service providers, and find out what is available to help them access work experience and training.

There will be stalls from a wide range of providers including Albion in the Community, Job Centre Plus, National Careers Service, City College Brighton, Swim UK and NACRO .

The event is supported by The Big Lottery Funded BHT Accommodation for Work Project and with bus tickets for participants from Brighton City Council’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund 15/16, and will take place at 11am on Thursday 7 April, at the Friends Meeting House in Ship Street, Brighton.

The event’s an excellent opportunity for clients to find their own opportunities and resources. It’s also a great chance for support workers to find out about what is available locally.

The event is designed to work well for people who just want to find out what’s available as well as those who want to sign up to courses, programmes and activities on the day.

There is nothing else like this in the city and it’s a great opportunity for clients to get involved in work and learning.

Helping people to know what is available and to help them build their confidence are important first steps on the journey to employment.
