Christmas Collection volunteers

Job title: Volunteer Christmas Collector

Location: Across Brighton & Hove and Burgess Hill Closing Date: Friday 18 December 2020 3.00pm

We are looking for volunteers to help us with our annual Christmas collection, taking place on Saturday 19 December in various locations across Brighton & Hove. The money raised goes directly towards First Base Day Centre, which offers a range of vital support to people in the city who are rough sleeping or insecurely housed.

It’s been a very strange and difficult year for everyone. In terms of fundraising, we’ve seen a significant loss in charitable income since the lockdown was announced in March. We had to cancel two major fundraising events over the summer which were expected to raise £30,000 and the fundraising events organised by the community – schools, faith groups, businesses, and individuals – have come to almost a complete standstill. The Christmas collections are one of our biggest fundraising events of the year, and are really important not just in terms of raising money but also for raising awareness of our services and the amazing work that goes on across the organisation. That’s why it is so important for us to continue with this event if we are allowed and it is safe to do so.

The health and safety of our volunteers and the public is paramount so we will limit the number of volunteers at each site with social distancing and hygiene measures in place. We will also have contactless donation options at all collection sites so that the public can donate safely.

We really need as many volunteers as possible to make this event a success. We’re looking forward to being out in public fundraising safely again, and really hope you can join us. We’ll be closely monitoring the coronavirus government guidelines and will keep volunteers updated on the status of the event.

When is it taking place?

Saturday 19 December, 11am – 2pm, across various sites in Brighton and Burgess Hill (TBA)

What do you have to do?

Wrap up warm, spare a few hours, and spread some cheer. We’re also encouraging volunteers to wear something festive – a Christmas jumper, hat, tinsel, a Santa suit – it’s up to you.

How do I sign up to volunteer?

Email [email protected] and let us know if you are able to help. We’ll be in touch nearer the time with more information.
