This year, BHT is taking part in National Scrutiny Week, which is being coordinated by tenant engagement specialists Tpas. It is a chance for us to celebrate the impact of our scrutiny work and learn about how other organisations work in partnership with their tenants too.
Throughout National Scrutiny Week, which is taking place this week from 27-31 July, a programme of free online events is being held – you can view the programme and book events here. Highlights include a tenant panel discussion with Clive Betts, MP and Chair of the MHCLG Select Committee, plus live debates, Q&A’s and webinars. Content can also be viewed retrospectively, so you don’t have to miss out!
Scrutiny at BHT
BHT offers our service users many different opportunities to analyse and challenge our performance and decision-making, and we know this improves the quality of services we provide. Clients and tenants can get involved in BHT recruitment processes, join our Tenant Scrutiny Panel or take part in regular surveys and focus groups. We are committed to client and tenant representation at all levels of the organisation; two current members of BHT’s Board of Trustees are tenants and former clients. More details about all the ways clients and tenants can get involved can be found here.
The BHT Scrutiny Panel provides a formal opportunity for tenants to critically analyse and challenge BHT processes, and ensures the views and priorities of tenants are acted upon. It is currently examining how BHT is addressing issues created for tenants by the introduction of Universal Credit, and will be reporting its findings and recommendations to the Board.
Charlie Green (pictured), Chair of the Tenant Scrutiny Panel said:
We work with full support and training from BHT Staff. Our task is to see if BHT can do things better! We have a great team and are looking to recruit more members in future. I get a lot of satisfaction from taking part and am learning new skills I would have never thought possible.
