Meet Sussex Oakleaf

Meet some of the clients, volunteers and staff that have joined BHT from Sussex Oakleaf's mental health services. Listen to their stories below as we welcome them to BHT.

Steve

Steve had lost his confidence and friends before coming to Sussex Oakleaf. He's now become a familiar face at Sussex Oakleaf groups and activities, where he enjoys helping other people as well as just attending himself.

Sam

Sam spent ten years in a psychiatric hospital in South Africa before coming to the UK and finding support with Sussex Oakleaf. She is now employed by Sussex Recovery College and helps other people to get the support that they need with their mental health.

Rose

From being unable to leave her house due to poor mental health, Rose has moved on to become a volunteer. She runs a weekly cooking group for clients where they can learn new skills and meet new people.

David

David is a Youth Recovery Worker working for Be OK - our youth mental health service. The service provide free, confidential support to 16-25 year olds helping them to gain confidence and learn how to better manage their mental health.

Reef

Reef recently graduated from Sussex Oakleaf's free Peer Mentoring course. The accredited qualification offers participants a chance to learn how to use their own lived experiences of mental illness to provide support for other. Reef heard about the course after taking part in a mental health themed art exhibition organised by Sussex Oakleaf.
