BHT Sussex seeks new Board Members

Do you know people who care passionately about social justice, the need to end homelessness and provide housing, and the challenge of providing life-changing services across Sussex?

We are looking for new members for the BHT Sussex Board to support our work as we prepare to face the uncertainty and opportunities posed by the post-Covid world.

Our Chair-elect, Kelvin MacDonald, who will succeed Joan Mortimer in December, has said:

We are looking for people who want to help us make a big impact and shape a bold vision for a better future for our tenants and clients, and provide an exemplar for working with those with multiple and complex needs.

We are emerging from Covid a stronger and more resilient organisation, and we are now setting our ambitious agenda for the next decade.

We are looking for new members who first and foremost believe in the work we do. While none of the following skills are essential, we are looking for people who are entrepreneurial, who can assist with our strategic planning, and who might bring analytical skills and the ability to assess a range of information from different sources.

Board members need to be able to balance an enthusiasm for new opportunities with an understanding of, and an ability to assess, risk. They also need to be able to scrutinise the work of our senior managers and to hold them accountable.

We are also looking for one new member who will bring the analytical skills, financial knowledge, and leadership potential to become the Chair of our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. More details of this role are available on request.

Because of natural turnover amongst Board members, women and working age adults are currently under-represented.

If you know someone who might be interested in learning more about this exciting opportunity, please contact claire.knight@bht.org.uk who will ensure that they get more information including an invitation to an online ‘open evening’ so that they can hear more about this exciting volunteering opportunity and the tremendous work that our Board undertakes.

If they are interested in becoming Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, Claire will arrange for the retiring Chair, Peter Freeman, to give you a call.

These roles are all unpaid but certain expenses will be paid.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 12 noon on Monday 29th November.
