BHT Sussex is pleased to announce that our winter appeal has been a big success as we beat our £30,000 target to raise £37,315! All the money raised will go to First Base Day Centre to help people in Brighton and Hove who are sleeping rough. At First Base, people can access practical essentials such as hot food, showers and clean dry clothes, alongside in-depth advice and support to move away from homelessness for good.
First Base is in high demand and supported more than 500 people in the past year. As well as providing practical essentials, the centre helps people to find safe accommodation, secure employment, and access the vital services they need to rebuild their lives, including GPs, mental health support and addiction services. Last year 6,603 visits were made to the Centre, which is the only one of its kind in Brighton and Hove.
Jo Berry, Head of Business Development at BHT Sussex, said:
We want to thank everyone who generously gave their time to help us fundraise this Christmas, from staff and supporters singing and bucket shaking at Brighton Pub Carols, to clients dressing up and hitting the streets of Brighton to collect donations and spread festive cheer.
We were also delighted to be part of the Santa Bus this year, receiving £2,339 as one of their designated charities. This is a wonderful community event organised by Brighton and Hove Buses every year which sees Santa and volunteers boarding a beautifully decorated bus and visiting neighbourhoods across the city.
The majority of the money raised came from individuals making donations via our website. Collectively, our supporters made a big impact and ensured we can keep the doors open at First Base in a difficult climate. Thank you to everyone who donated and thank you to our fundraisers!
We appreciate donations at any time of the year so if you would like to become a monthly donor, please head to this page of our website to find out more. If you would like to fundraise for us this year, email us at [email protected] for help and advice.
