Thank you community fundraisers!

At the end of 2022, BHT Sussex ran its annual Christmas fundraising appeal, in aid of First Base Day Centre. We are grateful as ever to so many people in our fantastic local community, who held a number of fundraisers and kindly donated the money raised to our appeal.

Held at Exeter Street Hall, ‘Merry Musicale’ was a wonderfully festive fundraiser held by voice teacher, Lauren Easton. Her voice students took to the stage to spread some festive cheer to a sold-out audience and performed an array of Christmas tunes. Some of the students were even singing in public for the first time! The event raised a brilliant £200 for our Christmas appeal.

Also in December, a fundraising gig and raffle took place at the Dover Castle Pub in Hanover. The event featured three local bands, Two Kings, The Tridents and Bad Bad Whiskey. For The Tridents, this was only the second time they had performed. The bands kindly volunteered their usual fee to be donated to BHT Sussex and gave £200 to our appeal.

Although this particular fundraiser happened back in October, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention 15below’s annual Gameathon. 15below are frequent fundraisers and supporters of BHT Sussex and have held their Gameathon 5 times!

The event involves 15belowers taking on the tough challenge of staying awake for 24 hours, whilst focusing their energy on a whole host of games.

A member of the 15below team said:

It was a gruelling 24 hours, but with the help of various fun games and lots of caffeine, we successfully completed the challenge. We had colleagues from our Sydney office join us as well as remote workers who participated from their homes.”

This year’s Gameathon raised a very impressive £3,155 – beating their previous total!

15below also kindly donated to our Christmas appeal this year.

The money raised by these fundraising events and by donations to our Christmas appeal will go towards the running costs of First Base Day Centre. First Base is often the first point of contact for people who find themselves on the streets. It provides warm showers, clean clothes, hot meals, advice and so much more.

Thank you so much to everyone who fundraised for us this Christmas, and helped us smash our £30,000 target!
