BHT partners with Govia Thameslink Railway this Christmas

BHT and Govia Thameslink Railway, the UK’s largest rail network, will join forces this Christmas to provide support for the homeless in Brighton as the winter frost takes hold. The new initiative, Great Sock Appeal, will encourage rail commuters at Brighton station to donate a pair of new socks for those sleeping rough over the festive period. Often overlooked as an unimportant item for those sleeping rough, a pair of socks is essential for keeping feet warm and dry. Lancing College students ‘sleep out’ for BHT

A group of students and teachers from Lancing College braved the winter weather and slept outside for a night to raise money for BHT on World Homeless Day. Forty-eight students and teachers were sponsored by family and friends to take part on Thursday 10 October, raising a total of £1,430 to date. Birthday fundraiser for the Choir with No Name Brighton

On Saturday 21st September, Choir with No Name Brighton will be filling All Saints Church, Hove with feel good, foot-stomping classics from across the decades to celebrate their first birthday. They will be backed by a full live band and joined by special guests, and all funds raised will go towards supporting homeless people in Brighton. A great video has been produced which shows some of the highlights from the first ever Multiple Disadvantage Day, held on 3rd July 2019. It provides a snapshot of the coordinated events held up and down the country for Multiple Disadvantage Day, and features our very own Fulfilling Lives South East team, and their amazing Living Library event!  The day forms part of the national campaign of the Fulfilling Lives programme, which encourages people to #seethefullpicture and seeks positive change for those facing multiple disadvantage. BHT in Bloom gardening competition

We are pleased to launch our annual ‘BHT in Bloom’ gardening competition across all housing and client services. Gardening offers significant benefits for both physical and mental health, as well as improving the place where you live so please encourage clients and tenants from your service to get involved. Prizes include two £30 B&Q vouchers for the winners and three £10 B&Q vouchers for runners-up (sponsored by our gardening contractors, Southern Land Services). Successful Living Library held for Multiple Disadvantage Day

A ‘Living Library’ event took place in Brighton on 3rd July 2019, the first ever Multiple Disadvantage Day, which attendees described as inspiring and humbling. Members of the public were able to hear first-hand the stories of Fulfilling Lives staff and volunteers with experience of multiple disadvantage including mental ill health, addictions, domestic abuse, homelessness and prison. In the Living Library, real people rather than books were ‘borrowed’ by attendees for up to 15 minutes, creating a space for conversations that challenged stereotypes and stigma. Young People’s service receives donation from East Sussex Masons

Hastings Young People’s Service (HYPS), a BHT project, has received a donation of £1,200 from the East Sussex Masons. The service provides residential support to care leavers and young people at risk of homelessness across four different houses in Hastings.  The donation will be used to pay for twelve welcome packs for new service users joining the project, consisting of bedding, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. This week is Co-Production Week, and Fulfilling Lives have produced a special issue magazine with a spotlight on co-production. Co-production is central to BHT’s work and is at the heart of the Fulfilling Lives programme, which works alongside people with lived experience of multiple disadvantage to make services better connected and easier to access. The programme also provides intensive and tailored support to people with multiple and complex needs, helping the most vulnerable and hard to reach. BHT gains Investors in People Silver Award

New mayor Alex Phillips supports Threshold

Councillor Alex Phillips has become the youngest-ever Mayor of Brighton and Hove. Alex was first elected in a by-election in July 2009 and then re-elected at the following three local elections. The Mayoralty in Brighton and Hove is ceremonial and politically neutral unlike, for example, the Mayor of London which is an executive position with financial, operational and policy responsibilities.
