BHT’s flagship annual event, the Greater Brighton Cycle Challenge took place last Sunday, raising over ten thousand pounds for BHT’s First Base Day Centre for rough sleepers, as well as significant funds for other local causes. Hundreds of people took part in the event, which was organised by BHT and CSS Events, and comprised of a family-friendly challenge around Preston Park Velodrome track and a 60- or 30-mile route across the South Downs. BHT publishes annual snapshot survey report

We are pleased to present the report of the annual tenants’ and clients’ snapshot survey. Overall satisfaction with our services has remained strong at 83%, and it was great to see improvements from last year’s survey in areas such as communication, complaints handling and opportunities for clients and tenants to be involved in the organisation. We are also pleased to have significantly increased the response rate to the survey as compared to last year, particularly for BHT clients, with an increase from 55% to 70% of all clients. Upcoming exhibition gives a voice to homeless people

A powerful video and performance exhibition created by members of Brighton’s homeless community premieres at the ONCA Gallery in Brighton from 23-26 May 2019. The exhibition, entitled ‘I Get Up’, was created collaboratively by three local organisations; BHT’s First Base Day Centre, RAPT Theatre and RBD Design. Its title originated from a collective poem written by participants. At the heart of the exhibition is a series of films, writing and photography focused on a small group of Brighton-based people, all with experience of homelessness, which explores their lives in the city. BHT marks Mental Health Awareness Week

BHT is marking Mental Health Awareness Week, which starts today, with a variety of events and activities across its services including talks, walks and live bands! Today in Threshold’s regular Monday Wellbeing drop-in group they will be discussing this year’s theme of ‘Body Image’, thinking about how women can have a more positive relationship with their bodies. BHT’s Threshold provides women-only services include counselling, maternal mental health support, therapeutic drop in activities, yoga, wellbeing groups and childcare facilities. Local boxer sleeps rough to fundraise for BHT

Local boxing champion Nick Jenman recently braved a new kind of challenge, when he took to Brighton’s streets for three days and nights to raise funds for BHT. He has raised an impressive £2,260 in sponsorship. Nick took no phone, money or sleeping bag with him and used only the services available to rough sleepers in the city. He was motivated by a desire to teach his six-year-old daughter about homelessness as well as raise funds to support BHT to tackle its causes and consequences. Vero Screening take on The Greater Brighton Cycle Challenge

Ten members of staff from local Brighton business, Vero Screening, are taking on the 30 mile route of The Greater Brighton Cycle Challenge this May. Vero Screening are specialists in employment screening and their services include background checking, criminal record checks as well as outsourced employee referencing. The company has been supporting BHT since last summer and have already raised over £650 through their in-office fundraising events as well as donating items such as sleeping bags to First Base Day Centre. This International Women’s Day, BHT celebrates its specialist women’s services, which provide a lifeline to so many women in Brighton and Hove. On Saturday 9 March, BHT’s Threshold Women’s Services will join an inspiring collection of charities, speakers and activists at an event at Brighton Dome, running an all-day stall where people can find out more about the support offered. Hospitality Industry Raises £1,100 for BHT

A fundraising event at Market restaurant on Western Road, Hove has raised £1,100 for Brighton Housing Trust. Organised by Kate Alleston, owner of Market, with complimentary drinks donated by Divergent Drinks, the event saw people from the hospitality industry come together to raise funds for BHT’s First Base Day Centre. A raffle was hosted by food critic and local media celebrity, Andrew Kay.
