BHT Sussex to exhibit clients’ work at Artists Open Houses in May

BHT Sussex will be taking part in Artists Open Houses 2026.

We will showcase a powerful collection of our clients’ artwork in a public exhibition at First Base, our day centre for people experiencing homeless, situated in St Stephen’s Hall in Hove. The exhibition, entitled ‘Artists in Their Own Right’ will take place from 11am to 5pm over the first four weekends in May, and from 1pm to 5pm during the May bank holidays.

The exhibition will feature a diverse mix of art forms, from paintings and drawings to photography and multimedia exhibits. Participants come from a range of BHT Sussex projects, including our Addiction Services, mental health supported accommodation, and hostel for people experiencing homelessness. Tenants and staff have also taken part.

We aim to create a space to empower and boost the confidence of participating clients and tenants, as well as to strengthen public awareness of our services. Alongside the art exhibition, each weekend there will be a live performance by a local band, choir or artist contributor. These will include New Note Strummers, Cascade Recovery Choir and the Choir with No Name Brighton, a choir for people impacted by homelessness and marginalisation.

Anna Kuzan, Involvement Officer at BHT Sussex, said:

We are delighted to welcome people to our exhibition at First Base this May. ‘Artists in Their Own Right’ brings together a diverse group of individuals, each presenting work shaped by their own experiences, ideas, and ways of seeing the world. It offers an open and inclusive platform where artists are free to explore any theme or medium. The focus is on the artists themselves – their voices and their stories. Please visit and show your support!

The exhibition will be held at First Base Day Centre in St Stephens Hall, Montpelier Place, Brighton.
