This past weekend, BHT Sussex celebrated the LGBTQ+ community at Brighton Pride! On Saturday, we took part in the parade which travelled through Brighton from Hove Lawns to Preston Park. The Pride Committee attended the Amex Stadium on Friday to attach banners to the float which were designed by our very own Ian Wilson, Senior Manager Mental Health Services.
A new banner was also unveiled before the parade started which featured a cartoon tribute to Gill, a supporter of BHT Sussex, who sadly passed away recently. She had been on our Pride float in years past so it was fitting for her to feature.
It was lovely to have the sunshine out this year, following the past two years of rain! Spirits on the float and in the crowds were very high and people enjoyed our playlist of bangers. It was great to see so many people recognising the BHT Sussex name and dancing along with us on the streets of Brighton.
Chair of the Board, Kelvin MacDonald, once again acted as a wheel steward this year and had this to say about the experience:
“I thought that it was one of the most joyous Pride events that I have attended. It was brilliant to see the crowd peering to see which organisation the float represented and then bursting into applause when they saw it was BHT Sussex. As ever, the music set was the best in the whole parade and really got the crowd bopping on the pavements. So valuable in so many ways for BHTS to be part of this.”
Please enjoy some photos taken of the float from staff and supporters who lined the route. They really capture the celebratory atmosphere:
