Artists Open Houses exhibition a great success for BHT Sussex

In May, we participated in Artists Open Houses, showcasing a powerful collection of our clients’ and tenants’ artwork in a public exhibition at First Base, our day centre for people experiencing homelessness. The exhibition was titled ‘Artists in Their Own Right’ and took place across four weekends and two bank holidays last month.

The exhibition featured a diverse mix of art forms, from paintings and drawings to photography and multimedia exhibits. Participants came from a range of BHT Sussex projects, including our Addiction Services, mental health supported accommodation, and hostel for people experiencing homelessness. Tenants and staff also took part.

Over 800 visitors came to visit the exhibition throughout May, fulfilling our goals of giving tenants and clients a chance to shine and show the public they’re more than just the labels seen in statistics, reaching out to the public to allow them to learn more about BHT Sussex, and advancing local community relations.

Some visitors were even lucky enough to be present for various musical performances, with the Choir with No Name, Cascade Creative Recovery Choir and New Note Strummers all performing at the exhibition.

A huge well done to Anna Kuzan, Involvement Officer, who has worked tirelessly to make this event happen, and the team of BHT Sussex staff, tenants, and clients, as well as choirs and music groups who offered their support.

Please enjoy this gallery of photos from the exhibition and look out for next year’s exhibition announcement in due course.
