New members join the Board of Trustees

We have recently welcomed two new members to our Board of Trustees, Mary Davies and Lee Davies, who replaced two members who decided to leave us at the end of 2023.

Mary and Lee will be continuing the important work of the Board, who are ultimately responsible for ensuring that everything BHT Sussex does is effective, efficient and fulfils our statutory responsibilities.

After beginning the recruitment process back in August, Mary and Lee were announced as the chosen candidates to join the board in November. The process included discussion panels with current BHT Sussex clients and tenants, who offered valuable insight about who they felt would best fill the positions.

Mary currently works as a recovery coach for Cascade Creative Recovery, volunteers with the Recovery Project and has previously worked as an Occupational Therapist in physical and mental health throughout London and Sussex. Mary is passionate about giving a voice to the most marginalised in our society; those struggling with addiction, mental health, and homelessness.

As a current client of BHT Sussex’s Addiction Services, she brings a wealth of lived experience to this role. She believes in the power of a nurturing environment and engagement in meaningful activity to enable individuals to reach their full potential. Mary is also an enthusiastic gardener and a fitness devotee.

Lee is an architect with nearly 30 years of professional and practical experience with a comprehensive understanding of the housing and property field.

Lee is a director at HNW Architects and has lived in Brighton and Hove for over 20 years. Throughout his career, Lee has specialised in social housing and has experience leading residential projects for both affordable housing providers and local councils. Lee is passionate about creating homes and environments that make a positive contribution to a neighbourhood and make a difference to the quality of people’s lives.

In addition, Lee is a regional Royal Institute of British Architects jury panel member, as well as a student mentor and guest critic at the University of Brighton’s School of Architecture.

We are excited to have Mary and Lee join the Board and continue its work.
