Successful Community Day at Leylands Road, Burgess Hill in Partnership with CampbellReith

A huge thank you to Alex Forbes and a team of 10 volunteers from Campbell Reith, including surveyors, engineers, architects and consultants, along with representatives from Homes England, who spent the day last Thursday volunteering at our registered care home for people with mental health issues in Leylands Road, Burgess Hill.

Despite the heat, the team achieved an enormous amount. They gave the kitchen and part of the hallway a fresh new look with two coats of paint, including the ceilings, and transformed an overgrown area of the garden by uncovering the pond and creating a circular pathway around the space.

The day also provided a great opportunity for residents and volunteers to come together. A delicious Jamaican BBQ, including jerk chicken, rice and peas, salads and homemade cake, was prepared by a resident and the residents joined the volunteer team for lunch, creating a warm and sociable atmosphere.

The volunteers donated all of the painting equipment they purchased for the day and received a heartfelt thank you for their hard work and generosity. The team shared how much they enjoyed stepping away from their usual roles to work together on a project that delivered genuine social value.

Emma Gould, Senior Manager Mental Health Recovery and Mid Sussex Supported Housing Services said:

The support from the Campbell Reith and Homes England team has made a real difference to our service. Their hard work has helped improve both our communal areas and garden, creating spaces that residents can enjoy every day. It was also great to see residents and volunteers spending time together and sharing lunch. We’re very grateful for the team’s time, enthusiasm and generosity.

Alex Forbes, Senior Partner at CampbellReith commented on the day

As part of our continued commitment to social value, the Brookleigh Primary School project team volunteered with BHT Sussex, at the Leylands site in Burgess Hill. Supported by Homes England and members of the new primary school design team including sixfootstudio, Floh Consulting and Stace, a registered care home in Burgess Hill received some TLC during a blisteringly hot day. Activities for the day included painting a kitchen, clearing a large area within the mature private garden and decorating a communal hallway. The BHT Team and residents of the home did a fantastic job of looking after us, including laying on a delicious barbeque at lunchtime and even provided home baked cakes once we were finished with the decorating and gardening. An extremely rewarding day for the team and a pleasure to work with BHT Sussex and to meet some of their residents.
