Repair works have been completed at some of our social housing flats at Richard Allen Court in Brighton, following an accidental fire in October 2023. Tenants started to move back into their flats just off Lewes Road over the past two weeks, after being evacuated to alternative BHT Sussex social housing, to stay with family or to rent privately.
Following the fire, extensive repair works were undertaken by Packham Construction, as contracted by us. New windows, kitchens, bathrooms, walls and brickwork were fitted, as well as upgraded boilers and new wall insulation. The repair works have brought up the EPC levels of the flats to level C, which should help tenants with lowering future heating bills. After the main works were completed, the flats were also redecorated.
Our Chief Executive, David Chaffey, and Chair of the Board of Trustees, Kelvin MacDonald, were in attendance to welcome tenants home today, as well as Bonnie Bird and Paul Fagan from the Housing Services team. Representatives from Infinity Surveying who helped determine the repairs needed following the fire were also present.
Tenants were grateful to return to their homes in a staggered return in the past two weeks and were happy to show BHT Sussex staff around the newly repaired flats.
BHT Sussex Housing Services provides homes for 450 residents in Brighton and Hove, Eastbourne and Hastings. Read more about this part of our work on our website.
