The arrival of darker nights and colder days can only mean one thing at BHT Sussex – it’s time to plan our Christmas Street Collection!
This December, we are thrilled to welcome the return of our much-loved Christmas Street Collection after a break of two years due to covid and we need enthusiastic volunteers to make the event a big success. The collection is great fun – a chance to wear santa hats, eat mince pies, meet nice people, and raise money for a great cause.
When and where is it?
This year’s collection is taking place on Saturday 17th December between 11am – 2pm on George Street, Hove and you can volunteer for three hours or one, whatever suits you.
What do I have to do?
Wrap up warm, hold a collection bucket and spread some festive cheer! You will be given a full briefing before you start and will be situated close to other collectors in case you have questions or need support. We encourage you to wear something festive – a Christmas jumper, hat, a Santa suit – it’s up to you (Santa hats will be provided). Once your shift is over, you are welcome to warm up at the London Road Office with a hot drink and mince pie.
Where is the money going?
All of the money raised through the collection goes towards the running costs of First Base Day Centre. First Base is open throughout the festive season and all year round, welcoming people sleeping rough or who are insecurely housed with hot food, warm showers and clean clothes. Importantly, it also provides advice and support to enable people to move off the streets into a place they can call home. Due to the current Cost-of-Living Crisis, our services are needed now more than ever, as more people turn to BHT Sussex for support, advice and practical help.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
To sign up or get more information on the event please email Charlotte, BHT Sussex’s Fundraising and Communications Officer (firstname.lastname@example.org) and she’ll be in touch with further details.
