Tenants return to Richard Allen Court following fire

Repair works have been completed at some of our social housing flats at Richard Allen Court in Brighton, following an accidental fire in October 2023. Tenants started to move back into their flats just off Lewes Road over the past two weeks, after being evacuated to alternative BHT Sussex social housing, to stay with family or to rent privately. Following the fire, extensive repair works were undertaken by Packham Construction, as contracted by us. Solar panels fitted to 12 flats at Cashman Lodge

Work is nearing completion on the installation of new cavity wall insulation and solar panels for twelve flats at Cashman Lodge in Hollingbury, Brighton. The work is part funded by a government grant from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, which we match funded. Staff from our Housing Services team, Chief Executive, David Chaffey and Chair of the Board, Kelvin MacDonald were given a tour and updated on the progress of the project by Aaron from contractors, Crystal, and Retrofit Coordinator, Alex Hunt. Local mayors honour BHT Sussex volunteers

Volunteers’ Week takes place during the first week of June each year and shines a spotlight onto the millions of people who volunteer across the UK. As part of our celebrations, we co-hosted receptions with the Mayor of Brighton and Hove, and the Mayor of Burgess Hill. At Brighton Town Hall, a number of volunteers, our CEO, David Chaffey, and members of staff were welcomed by the Mayor, Amanda Grimshaw, to the Council Chamber. Volunteers celebrated at BHT Sussex for Volunteers’ Week

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people across the UK make through volunteering in their communities. It is run by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and takes place during the first week of June every year. The campaign highlights the diversity and unity of volunteer work, which is aptly reflected by the volunteers at BHT Sussex. 29 BHT Sussex volunteers donated 2261 hours of their time in the year 2024/2025 demonstrating how essential volunteers are to the delivery and development of many of our projects. BHT Sussex in Focus exhibition launched in Brighton

We are delighted to share the news of an extremely successful opening day of BHT Sussex in Focus – an art exhibition featuring work by BHT Sussex clients and tenants. The event took place in the reception of our head office at 144 London Road and saw an astonishing number of 100 visitors enjoying the art, music, and cake. The works of 22 artists are on display and consist of a wide range of paintings, drawings, photography, and conceptual art.
