A Community Fridge has been installed in BHT’s Whitehawk Inn on Whitehawk Road, Brighton, in an initiative designed to fight food waste and food poverty. The fridge was launched on Tuesday 19 February, thanks to funding from Sainsbury’s Waste Less Save More campaign for Brighton & Hove Food Partnership. We are pleased to announce a record Christmas fundraising appeal! Donations and income from special events raised an impressive £37,490. All of this will support the work of First Base Day Centre, which provides basic services for rough sleepers, as well as comprehensive support to help people off the streets for good. BHT had set an overall target of £35,000 this year. A Brighton choir for people who are homeless joined choir members from across the country to record the single ‘This is Me’, from the Greatest Showman. The single is being released this March to celebrate ten years of the Choir With No Name. The Choir With No Name is a nationwide charity that runs pop-up choirs for people who have experienced homelessness or marginalisation due to poverty. The Brighton choir has been running in partnership with BHT since August last year. Members from the Brighton choir sang with members from Liverpool, Birmingham and London. Local Escape Room company, Pier Pressure, are donating 10% of the profits of their new game to BHT.

BHT has launched its 2018 Christmas Appeal with a disturbing and hard hitting video in which nine year old Milly speaks of her future as a homeless teenager. The video was made for BHT, without charge, by Hove-based film production company Big Egg Films. BHT needs to raise £35,000 this Christmas in order to provide its services at First Base Day Centre over Christmas and throughout the coming year.
